She was Forgiven – a dark & sexy evening with queer rap duo LIONSTORM & friends
‘Our philosophy is to fight the cognitive dissonance in our society by challenging the norms and rebelling against censorship. This is also our vision for this party.’ – LIONSTORM
The queer rap formation LIONSTORM consists of Ski and Stars. The Amsterdam duo already made a huge impression at festivals such as Festival de la Cité in Switzerland, BRDCST in Belgium and Rolling Loud Netherlands with their activist and explicit rap, in which horrorcore, industrial and trap dominate. Quay Dash also noticed this, recording the song Daddy’s Pussy with them.
LIONSTORM is all about queerness, female sexuality and breaking taboos. All their performances, music videos and merchandise reflect their unique raw and sexy style. Now, under the banner She was Forgiven, they are inviting a number of related artists for an evening at the Muziekgebouw to create a ‘dark and sexy universe’ together.
Grove
DJ, producer and vocalist Grove from Bristol moves deftly between dub, jungle, dancehall, punk and pop, looking firmly at the personal and social message. Grove’s mother’s advice is paramount: ‘Whatever you do, just be bold with it.’ This approach led to the EP Queer + Black, to stages at Lowlands and Into The Great Wide Open, among others, and a collaboration with LIONSTORM on the song Hey Mama.
AMARA ctk100
Switzerland’s AMARA ctk100 lumps together 50 years of pop influences and picks the best ingredients for its own DIY hyper pop. It shoots from a worship of Madonna and Kylie Minogue to the ultra-sweet pop of Britney Spears. But Charli xcx and Soulwax will also be listening approvingly. With LIONSTORM, she released the single Exxxplain this.
HASZNAT
HASZNAT is the musical embodiment of an out-of-control night out in the big city. London that is. With sirens, metal on metal, dystopian reverb, ebbing delays and glitches, it sounds like being at a tunnel party where the electricity doesn’t always want to cooperate. The pitch-black industrial rap is also delivered by an audiovisual artist, so it’s a spectacle in terms of both sound and looks.
KAVARI
Cameron Sofia Winters, better known as KAVARI, is a British artist, music producer, and DJ currently based in Glasgow, Scotland. Known across the world for her high contrast productions and performances that fuse industrial, ambient, club, & alternative electronic. She is revered as one of the main figures of the current UK underground electronic music scene. Her work has garnered her attention from the likes of Aphex Twin, Hudson Mohawke, REZZ, Mura Masa, and many more.
ZOBAYDA
ZOBAYDA is an Egyptian DJ and artist living in the Netherlands. Focusing on energy rather than genre, she mixes a range of beats and sounds with influences from the global south and its diaspora. ‘I see art everywhere,’ says ZOBAYDA, who refuses to distinguish between different worlds in creative expression. Besides music, this manifests itself in film, photography, production or direction.
