RAqS with Parrish Smith, Glitter55 and more

19 April - Parallel, Amsterdam
€17.50

RAqS will turn Parallel into a frenzy of syncopated DJ sets, breakbeats, genre defying performances and unruly energy.

RAqS (dance in Arabic) is a collective with a mission to empower underground and contemporary arts, presenting live shows and audio-visual performances full of Levantine (Ash-Shaam) chants and rhythms, Tarab music and Andalusian classics. This event will be filmed and published on RAqS Experiences YouTube channel.

Parrish Smith
Parrish Smith captivates with music both the extreme and the hypnotic. Being well known for transcending genres to break down walls of prejudice, his unique sound travels through Punk, Rock, Techno, and Rhythmic Experimental music. Emotion and intensity drive his art, defying contemporary and current elitist techno biases. From working on film scores to club music, band productions and conceptual projects, he sees failure and taking risks as a step closer to achievement. Smith’s mantra, “No elitism, no prejudice, no genre, no 4×4, hypnotic, tense, comprehensible, a state of mind.”, is a beautiful and true example of the punk mentality.

Glitter55
Glitter55 plays intensely syncopated dj sets, boosted by breakbeats and gqom. If she often adds a classic chaabi to her performances, it is with kicks that she has made a place for herself alongside artists such as TSVI, BAMBOUNOU, SAMAA ABDULHADI, Joe Goddard and Kiddy Smile.

Muqata’a
Muqata’a is an electronic musician and MC based in Ramallah, Palestine. Creating sounds using sampled material, field recordings, and electronic devices, the results range between harsh beats, abstract tones, and glitch. He has released several solo albums including; ‘Kamil Manqus’ (2021) on Hundebiss, ‘Inkanakuntu’ (2018) on Discrepant, ‘Dubt Al-Ghubar’ (2017) on Third Type Tapes, ‘La Lisana Lah’ (2017), and ‘Hayawan Nateq’ (2013). Muqata’a has composed several film scores, as well as scores for dance performances, and is now working on multiple collaborative and solo projects.
