Darren Aronofsky’s (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan) debut film follows an obsessive young mathematician named Max Cohen.Intrigued by the mathematical nature of the universe, he begins a search for an all-explanatory code behind the order in the spiritual and material world.

During his search, he is plagued by migraine attacks, hallucinations and Wall Street companies and religious cults who want to gain his insights for their own gain.

This intriguing, dark trip brings mathematics and its possible range to life in a fascinating way. A fascinating psychological portrait of character that balances between genius and madness. With a unique visual style – in highly contrasted black and white with unique close-ups, repetitions, accelerations and jump-cuts – this psychological thriller masterfully depicts an all-encompassing obsession.

This film is part of THE FUTURE WE LIVE IN series to be seen in March and April in De Uitkijk.
