Ora Cogan merges into her smoky, psychedelic approach to gothic country influences from post-punk, psych-rock and traditional balladry. Cogan is known for her special voice and cinematic compositions.
She drew inspiration from a wide range of influences as she grew up, from Ladino and Rumbetico to American country blues and outsider art, all of which contribute to her glacial and cinematic yet intimate sound. Her latest album, ‘Formless’, finds beauty, absurdity, humor and unlikely joy in the darkest times. “I spent a lot of time wandering aimlessly in the woods with my dog,” Cogan said. The result is an abundance of reflections on uncomfortable love, pain, internal struggle, and a struggle to find ways to feel good when everything goes badly.
