The tenth edition of Amsterdam’s FIBER Festival returns to Garage Noord for its first club night on Friday May 30.
In line with the festival theme Wildness, FIBER brings together a vast selection of sounds that throw you in different directions; from industrial rhythms, mutant and fast-paced spiralling techno, breaks to dubstep-infused electronics. Enhanced by an immersive media design.
Puck Schot is an interdisciplinary artist. In her work her personal, diary-like poetry often serves to be the core element to everything. Subjects are often self-image and transformation of it, sexuality, revenge, shame and abjection. Under her alias ‘Acidic Male’ she produces tracks and performs live, combining sounds, noise and poetry. Fascinated by different genres of electronic music, she hopes to bring a reflective yet confronting space to the listener within the duality of the harsh sounds and the confessional texts about the body that she uses.
Having found their way in plenty of podcasts and radio shows over the past few years, HTF’s music finds itself even more rightfully experienced live, all analogue protocols and transfixing energies blazing. Like head reducers chasing their prey down a labyrinthian dark web, hacked-out signals and robotic warnings beaconing our descent into a frenzied maelstrom of a headspace.
Mark Rutta
Fluctuating between tripped-out slow burners and bass-heavy bangers that pose a serious threat to the subs, Mark Rutta is a DJ duo consisting of Mark (trademark) and Ruta (Genyten).
Both Mark and Ruta have been fixtures in Rotterdam’s music landscape for quite some time; Mark as a booker and founder of Poing Club Rotterdam, and Ruta through various independent projects that push the boundaries of electronic music.
Both artists sharing a deep affinity for darker, bass-heavy sounds, ranging from industrial to IDM, and breaks to dubstep. Their selections often venture into uncharted territory, resonating with more adventurous listeners. Expect a DJ set at Garage Noord, where Mark Rutta is willing to take risks to surprise you with a 1.5-hour set full of subsonic storytelling.
ojoo is celebrated for her ability to fuse an eclectic range of styles, tempos, and sounds, crafting an engaging musical experience. Their mixes give equal attention to atmosphere and groove. they are a swirling cauldron of rhythms across a whole spectrum of genres, from old-school dancehall to its most futuristic and distorted mutations, twisting through dub, reggaeton, dembow, grime, and sometimes excursions into the noisy, grubby and sludgy, with illbient, musique concrète, and more.
Known for his deep, spacious and subtle productions, Pinch has always maintained a reverential connection to dubstep’s reggae and dub roots. The UK based artist is undoubtedly one of the key figures in the development of dubstep, both as a recording artist and as the founder of the known label named: Tectonic.
Techno’s endless permutations are as much an inspiration as dub in Pinch’s music. Pinch’s DJ sets and productions take the term “dub techno” not as a concrete blueprint laid down by Basic Channel in the 1990s, but as a creative springboard to explore and combine two of the most versatile music styles ever conceived. He likes to weave the bass and dynamics of dub with the tense soundscapes and atmospheres of techno.
A sonic force to be reckoned with, Slikback is a producer, DJ and live performer who has gained international prominence through his ongoing interdisciplinary musical output and collaborations. The speed at which he creates tracks, the originality and intensity of his releases show an artist at the forefront of today’s global experimental musical landscape. Slikback is extending the hardcore continuum into the future, while surfing the wild zeitgeist of an algorithmic, hyper-connected but collapsing reality.
To highlight one release among this body of work does not do justice to his artistry, but those who want to get to know the world of this sound alchemist can dive into the monumental 2024 release SLIKBACK, where you can get lost in 22 tracks across two vinyl records.
Genre-busting, energy-driven aural narratives, full of unexpected twists and turns. Rotterdam-born and based DJ, audiovisual artist and graphic designer Soft Break is heavily inspired by her early encounters with Rotterdam’s jungle, dubstep and grime scene. Her DJ sets move through gentle vocals, percussion, hard drums, footwork, hip hop and sub destroying bass.
Through her work in music, design, and art, she aims to highlight Black Dutch representations in archives and questions notions of memory, identity, space and time. As one of the founders, Soft Break collaborates often with AMPFEMININE, a collective curating mixes by femme-identifying DJ’s, booking talent, hosting events and parties. Throughout a variety of outstanding sets, she’s steadily rising.
Tharim Cornelisse (live visuals)
Tharim Cornelisse is a digital artist based in Amsterdam. With a focus on generative design, CGI, and real-time visuals his work tries to translate abstract things into comprehensible feelings. His work is intertwined with electronic music and nightlife, and often takes the shape of collaborative A/V performances and moving image projects.
Tharim will use a new, experimental way of image processing and software use to perform live visuals during the night. The spatial design of the scenography is co-designed with George Kelly. Expect dreamy yet sharp compositions that blur the line between reality and glitch-infused imagery.
