We’re learning to recognize our privileges, flaws and responsibilities. We stand in solidarity with those who fight against systemic oppression. We are researching ways to create and amplify more diversity in our community, structurally, and use our position in a more substantial and helpful manner, structurally. In doing so, we would like to use our platform to shine some extra light on a handful of initiatives doing this already.

TW: abuse & violence!
“This story is bloodcurdling and absolutely heartbreaking at the same time, but we could have seen it coming amidst endless waves of Muslim and foreigner hatred in the EU. When hate speech is guised as ‘freedom of speech’, these are the very real human beings suffering the consequences.”
“This Syrian family was forced to leave everything they had known and loved behind to flee the war, and they thought they had found a safe place to start again. How horrific to think that they were wrong and once again had to fear for their lives and their safety. The shared videos speak for themselves, the abuse was brutal and neither the police, the department of Justice, nor the municipality stepped in. They had seen the images, they knew, for months. This story is not new, it happened to others, and it is the manifestation of institutionalized racism. This family was almost portrayed as the bad party, and had to go to court to NOT GET KICKED OUT OF THEIR HOUSE. This fundraiser is to offer them peace of mind while looking for a new place, to can recover from the endless trauma, the abuse, and not worry about money. It should cover any judicial costs as well. Most importantly, let’s show them they’re not alone.”

Our friends from Garage Noord are collecting clothes for the Leger des Heils in Amsterdam-Noord, who will hand them out to the homeless and other people in need. Originally GN organised a physical collection, but due to the new COVID-measurements they decided on a pick-up day on December the 19th. Send a Whatsapp message to +31639196086 and hand out the warm clothes from your doorstep. Make sure more people will be warm these months.
