Incubated in Shanghai and manifested in London, Organ Tapes (aka Tim Zha) is an artist whose relatively short existence is marked by insanely eclectic musical output – jangly guitar pop, blissful post-vaporwave, lysergic dancehall and pretty much everything between and beyond. And yet, each of his releases are unified by an inscrutable emotive quality belying their stylistic diversity, an indefinable blend of pristine sublimity and all-too-human intimacy. ‘X Blood Riddim’, off his upcoming Word Life mixtape, draws from slightly more grounded source material, with its featherweight synth and mallet dashes and fluid, autotuned vocals firmly anchored by a loping dembow beat. It defies categorisation, as with the unprecedentedly rapturous response sweeping the halls of Subba HQ after we managed to snag this tune for a debut – listen below and get in on it.
