Mac DeMarco’s got a big ol’ gap in his front teeth and a style that could accurately be described as ‘dumpster chic’, merch emblazoned with amateurish fan illustrations, and fan-filmed YouTube videos featuring him performing a U2 cover live… while butt naked. All that goofy nonchalance would come off as obnoxious if this 22-year-old kid wasn’t also extremely adept at writing warm lo-fi rock ’n’ roll songs suave enough to belie his young age. After releasing his promising Rock And Roll Night Club mini-LP earlier this year, DeMarco’s back with this proper full-length debut. Although it’s a little front-loaded, Mac DeMarco 2’s abundant charm proves him to be the most lovable little imp rock ’n’ roll has seen in quite some time.
