ERAAS – self-titled (Felte)

The founding members of this Brooklyn post-punk band, Robert Toher and Austin Stawiarz, both used to play in earthy Connecticut outfit Apse, but were interested in exploring darker themes with their new project. The cover art of their full-length debut looks like a still from 2001: A Space Odyssey, which would be an apt choice: ERAAS is a vessel which transports listeners to a dark, lonely world nearly devoid of human emotion but filled with ominous atmosphere, sometimes suspended while regarding an abyss, then propelled forward through space and time by the occasional motorik groove. Thankfully, this one’s an odyssey humans can not only survive but also repeat over and over again.
