Ty Segall – Twins

Ty Segall – Twins (Drag City)

Ty Segall has unleashed a steady stream of consistently solid rock ’n’ roll releases since 2008, but he’s having a banner year (even for him): Twins is not only his third full-length of 2012, it’s his third excellent full-length of 2012. If you look at Segall’s oeuvre like a map, rather than a new boundary or the shortest route from Point A to Point B, Twins is like a collection of POI markers scattered across the broad terrain he’s covered thus far, from blistering garage-rock to love songs to lumbering stoner jams to pop. The feeling I get is not one of having been here before, but of peeking through as-yet-unopened doorways. The world of rock ’n’ roll is apparently still full of wonders hidden in plain view, and right now Segall is its most able tour guide.
