Tame Impala – Lonerism (Modular People)
These Aussies blew many a mind with their dazzling 2010 debut, Innerspeaker. A highlight from that album, ‘Solitude is Bliss’, serves as the perfect entry point for their follow-up, Lonerism. Though a thematic connection is immediately apparent, it’s far from superficial. If that song was a gospel, Lonerism is a new testament to the inevitability – and acceptability – of loneliness. Though band mastermind Kevin Parker (the titular Loner) undoubtedly only really means to refer to himself, Lonerism’s themes of alienation and introspection are sure to resonate with many a solitary soul, especially since they slide gently into your ears encapsulated in gorgeous, richly detailed and deceptively exuberant-sounding psychedelia.
