Yeasayer – Fragrant World

Yeasayer – Fragrant World (Secretly Canadian)

This eclectic Brooklyn group’s sound shifted dramatically between their debut and 2010’s Odd Blood. Those who’ve stuck around should find their third album less of a shock, since it continues to explore the terrain between rock, world music and dance music. Leading up to Fragrant World’s release, the band sent fans on a scavenger hunt for videos of every song hidden around the web. These videos feature colourful, squirming visuals by Yoshi Sodeoka, and the music they accompany is similarly kaleidoscopic. Though none of its tracks reach the soaring heights of Odd Blood stand-out ‘O.N.E.’, this actually works in the album’s favour by making it easier to appreciate the many subtle and enjoyable details of Fragrant World’s topography.
