Bouwkunst en Geschiedenis

We’re already at the third chapter of the residency program of The Art Department. Timo Demollin and Rutger de Vries have now taken residence in our project space, and they have big plans.

The starting point of their research is the actual building where Subbacultcha and The Art Department are located, Lettergieterij Amsterdam voorheen N. Tetterode. As graphic designers they take interest in the rich history of the former type foundry, particularly in the book Kunst en Maatschappij (Art and Society), by S.H. de Roos, an influential type designer who was employed at the Tetterode building.

The book forms the leading motif of Demollin and de Vries’ residency. During the introductory public event, they will highlight the first chapter titled Bouwkunst en Geschiedenis (Architecture and History) through interventions and wall paintings.
