Our Art Department is launching a brand new residency program. Starting 1 April artists will be invited to work in the project space in the basement of our office.
In the space of a year the program will involve six artists, each invited for a two-month residency in our project space on Da Costakade, Amsterdam.
For the length of the residency, the invited artists will initiate lectures, workshops and other events aiming to disseminate their artistic process and provide context for their ongoing work, while at the same time working towards the opening of an exhibition.
Resident #1 – Hannah Polak
The residency program starts with visual artist Hannah Polak. During her residency, Polak will investigate the social implications of idolized western pop culture and its unexpected connection to current spiritual tendencies in society.
Taking her personal experiences and questions as a starting point and linking these to a series of social events, Polak sets out to propose a reinterpretation of the modern icon/idol in an artistic investigation that touches upon the most banal and universal human emotions. The result will consist of a modern version of a holy statue as well as a filmic documentation of the entire project.
