Subbacultcha, BIMHUIS and The Rest is Noise present: Eliana Glass

Eliana Glass is an Australian-American singer and pianist based in New York. Her sparse, meditative music reflects everyday life. On her debut album E , her controlled low voice and minimalist piano playing immediately set the tone. In doing so, she takes great liberties with her influences; for instance, the album features her own version of Dreams by Annette Peacock and an arrangement of Sing Me Softly the Blues by Carla Bley with new lyrics by Karin Krog. Emahoy is an ode to the piano-playing nun Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou from Ethiopia.

Glass studied vocal jazz at the New School with Kris Davis, Jay Clayton, Andrew Cyrille, and Ben Street, among others. She taught herself to play the piano as a child. She began writing songs during her studies, and returned to the piano during the pandemic. E was recorded using applied analog equipment in various studios with producer Francis Harris and engineer Bill Skibbe, who has worked with Steve Albini and Jack White.
