Pega Monstro is made up of Portuguese sister duo Maria and Julia. Born and raised in Lisbon, brought up around local garage-punk, sisters Maria and Julia plus friends started a label (Cafetra Records) to capture the bustling scene. Their self-titled debut in 2012 brought their gritty dream-punk to the table. In response to the band’s immediate success, Maria’s put it like this; ‘we were girls, we were young and we could rock, people weren’t used to that at all.’ Let it sink in and get over the fact; these girls rock. For anyone in doubt, look no further than the second album, Alfarroba, which came out last year on both Cafetra and the acclaimed Upset The Rhythm.
