murf/murw day 1

On October 2, 3, and 4, 2026, the Tilburg Murf/Murw festival once again eagerly serves as the sticky café table upon which obscure multidisciplinary experimental encounters can dance wildly and freely. The festival presents more than 80 subversive screenings and performances of music, visual arts, performance, and film from both domestic and international sources. This year, Murf/Murw meets the public again at well-known cultural venues in the city center such as the Nieuwe Vorst, NS16, Schouwburg, Kunstpodium-T, Hall of Fame, Little Devil, Paradox, and this time also in the Pauluskerk and the Harmonie.

We selected a few highlights for day 1:

Holobiont – Boogaerdt/Van der Schoot
HOLOBIONT is a subversive playground: part collective ritual, part anarchic dance floor. A gathering of performers, clitty wigs, smeared makeup and glitter that will mysteriously reappear in unexpected places. Here, bodies, labels and expectations collapse.

Muovipussi
The Finnish trio Muovipussi, literally meaning “plastic bag”, darts effortlessly between wildly different genres. Hip-hop, electro, punk, crystal-clear pop or metal: name it, and you’ll hear traces of it somewhere in their music. Virtuosic musicianship and rapid-fire rap are interwoven with grunts and an almost theatrical approach to performance, leaving the audience constantly wondering what exactly they are witnessing. The result is an explosive and peculiar live show, drenched in madness and punk energy.

Frank Rosaly, Rob Frye, Jeff Parker & Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti
Drummer and composer Frank Rosaly, whom you may remember as the drummer of Mother Tongue, brings together this exceptional quartet. Together, they present a performance rooted in rhythm, repetition, improvisation and collective intent. After a residency at the Bimhuis, this will be the only performance outside the Bimhuis in which they appear in this formation.

The music is inspired by Afro-Indigenous Puerto Rican Bomba traditions, including holandés, cuembé and seis corrido, as well as traditional plena, música jíbara, rumba, Cuban Regla Lucumí and batá drumming practices. Rather than reproducing these styles, the quartet creates a hybrid musical language in which stylistic boundaries blur and are dismantled.
