Mac DeMarco’s got a big ol’ gap in his front teeth and a style that could accurately be described as “dumpster chic”, an album cover of him smearing on lipstick, merch emblazoned with amateurish fan illustrations, and fan-filmed Youtube videos featuring him performing a U2 cover live… while butt naked. All that goofy nonchalance would come off as obnoxious if this 22 year old kid wasn’t also extremely adept at writing warm lo-fi rock ‘n’ roll songs suave enough to belie his young age, with a stage presence that’s rumored to be preternaturally poised. The lived-in, hyper cosy atmosphere of De Nieuwe Anita should serve as a pitch-perfect setting for DeMarco’s lovably casual cool.
