‍Since their debut Trouble (2022) and the follow-up Lightning Trails (2023), Laundromat Chicks have rapidly established themselves as one of the most exciting names in the vibrant Viennese indie scene. The band moves effortlessly between infectious power pop, sharp jangle pop, and melancholic guitar anthems, where humor, swagger, and vulnerability constantly come together. With influences reminiscent of Buzzcocks, Joy Division, Belle & Sebastian, and Big Star, Laundromat Chicks create a sound that feels both familiar and surprisingly fresh. Around frontman Tobias Hammermüller, Theresa Strohmer, Felix Schnabl, and Lena Pöttinger form a tight-knit band known for their productivity, individuality, and irresistible melodies.

On their third album, Sometimes Possessed, released via Siluh Records, the band further expands their musical horizons. While previous releases revolved primarily around compact guitar hooks and direct energy, the new work explores more layered, cinematic, and dreamy atmospheres. Inspired by heartbreak, road movies, and the beauty of imperfection, Hammermüller wrote songs that play with ambiguity, longing, and alienation. Tracks like “Cameron,” “Sunburn,” and “Secrets” showcase a band that dares to experiment without losing its melodic power. The result is a record that balances catchy indie pop and controlled chaos — a soundtrack for getting lost, wandering, and ultimately finding a part of yourself.

TOPSY TURVY
‍With their explosive mix of garage punk, surf rock, psychedelia, and lo-fi rock ‘n’ roll, TOPSY TURVY has emerged as one of the most idiosyncratic bands from the Viennese DIY scene. The trio—Resi, Lena, and Vic—is known for their playful chaos, energetic live shows, and DIY mentality, in which instruments and vocal roles are constantly switched. Their sound has been described as “The Slits doing surf rock” and effortlessly balances ragged punk energy, vintage girl-garage influences, and colorful psychedelia. With influences ranging from Girls In The Garage compilations to Amyl and The Sniffers and Automatic, TOPSY TURVY creates music that sounds simultaneously raw, humorous, and irresistibly catchy.

On their album Fighting The Ginormous Macho Nacho, released via Siluh Records, the band channels their frustrations, experiences, and absurdist humor into a furious yet playful half-hour trip. Created after intensive tours through Europe and the United Kingdom, the record reveals a band that sounds increasingly sharp and self-assured. Themes such as misogyny within the music industry are wrapped in surreal imagery, space-age glamour, and sarcastic energy, without ever losing their sense of fun. Singles like “Five Guitars” and “The Wind” showcase both the chaotic punk side and the dreamy, psychedelic undercurrent of the band — music that feels vibrant, instinctive, and delightfully unpredictable.

The Hobknobs
‍The Hobknobs is the duo of Yaël Dekker (also known from The Klittens) and Arie van Vliet (formerly of Lewsberg). On their debut album Helmets Off, they strip songs down to their essence. With sparse arrangements, minimal production, and voices that blend seamlessly, the result is music that feels direct and intimate, as if nothing should stand in the way of human interaction.

The seemingly simple songs on Helmets Off turn out to be layered and enigmatic upon closer listening. Comforting melodies take on an ominous quality, seemingly lighthearted tracks transform into pleas, and meanings are deliberately left open. The result sits precisely between ‘instantly familiar’ and ‘no one sounds like them’, with a natural self-evidence that is entirely characteristic of The Hobknobs.
