Gia Margaret + Resavoir

11 September - Jacobikerk, Utrecht
19:30 - € 26.50

Melancholic songs at the intersection of silence, ambient, and folk.

Chicago-based songwriter Gia Margaret moves between ambient and folk, with minimalist and experimental influences. She debuted in 2019 with ‘There’s Always A Glimmer’, but subsequently experienced vocal problems. During that period, she developed other musical languages and made the instrumental ambient album ‘Mia Gargaret’.

Now that her physical voice has recovered and her artistic voice has been honed, she completes the circle and returns this year with ‘Singing’: her first vocal album since 2019. Carried by soft piano lines, she delivers melancholic songs that gently rock the listener back and forth, only to occasionally break that calm with heartbreaking lyrics and richer instrumentation. Throughout the album, she applies the lessons of speechlessness to her own artistic voice, and she brings this to the Jacobikerk this late summer.

Support: Resavoir
Resavoir is a project by Chicago-based composer and producer Will Miller. The band creates light, melodic jazz in which various musical worlds come together. Their 2019 debut album received high praise from Pitchfork, VICE, and NPR Music, among others. After performances at the Boiler Room Festival in London, Resavoir continued to expand, with collaborations within the international jazz scene. In 2023, Resavoir released their second, again untitled, album with a revamped live band full of young Chicago musicians.
