This year the National Opera celebrates its 50th anniversary with Opera Forward Festival. Exploring the future of opera by incorporating new voices alongside new visions, OFF Festival honors creative contemporary work and the next generation of artists.
In the world premiere Only the sound remains famous director Peter Sellars combines two short operas inspired by Nôh dramas into a heavenly, full-length performance.
Afterwards, our good friends at The Rest Is Noise have teamed up with OFF to present an exceptional performance reflecting on the soul of the opera in the 21st Century featuring Colin Self.
Colin Self has built up a volatile reputation from his solo efforts as well as the long list of notable collaborations, including work with Holly Herndon on ‘Unequal’. Themes in his work include the search for the power to dramatically alter the human voice. The performance of Colin Self takes place on Saturday 19 March in the National Dutch Opera. Following Colin Self’s performance, local DJ favorite Arif Malawi will take over the decks.
