SEP 80 - WOMEN @ STUDIO80

Posted on: Tuesday 07 September 2010 at 05:20 am

Women’s self-titled post punk debut in 2008 remains a firm Subbacultcha! favourite, so it’s a pleasure to bring them back to Amsterdam as they show off songs from new album Public Strain. The Canadian art rockers are no strangers here, of course, and previously gave Deerhunter a run for their money in Paradiso. Lo-fi, dark and dry on the surface, shifts in percussion and harmony suddenly leap out whenever it’s least expected. Great! Idiot Glee provides lo-fi Beach Boys-inspired support.

21.30: Doors
22.00: Women
23.30: Idiot Glee

SEP 05 - VERONICA FALLS AT PARADISO!

Posted on: Friday 03 September 2010 at 02:12 am

The name may conjure visions of Californian emo punk and rich kids whining but Veronica Falls is in fact a brooding London-based quartet playing lo-fi art pop that harks back to the early ‘80s in northern England before blending in elements of classic Scottish tweepop (where the band originally came from).  Whether you’re coming to them as a fan of The Pastels or a follower of the Vivian Girls, pretty harmonies emerge from the ramshackle noise to make you swoon.

Sep 05 @ Paradiso | Starts 22.30 | Cover 8,50 | Free For Subbacultcha! Members

NIGHT OF THE UNEXPECTED - SEP 10 @ PARADISO

Posted on: Wednesday 01 September 2010 at 08:13 am

Subbacultcha!'s Amit Dey had a good look at the line- up for the upcoming Night Of The Unexpected and put together a list of highlights

Leave your sonic preconceptions at home because this annual festival in Amsterdam is all about seeing and hearing things from a new perspective. The whole of the Paradiso transforms into a non-stop laboratory of experimental sounds, drones, blips and feedback. You may even encounter a few groovy beats along the way, as a cast of Dutch musicians and international stars mix it up in a programme of electronics, dance music, noise metal, classical, jazz and gamelan.
