Yara Said, also known as Noise Diva, is a Syrian electronic music producer, researcher and visual artist. Her work spans across various mediums, including painting, design, and multimedia installations. Said graduated from the Sandberg Institute’s Fine Arts Masters program, with a research on sound as a tool for contemporary emancipatory practices. This topic emerged from her own experience and memory of sound and noise, confronted with the oppressive systems at play in both the Middle East and Europe.
Syrian Tonalities is an event showcasing works from makers whose practice reflects a glimpse of the complexity and the exploration of the reclaimed Syrian identity. It creates space for audio-visual works, live music, movies, poetry, and different forms of expression that sprout out of constantly being in proximity to what we call home, but never really reaching the status of being present in one.
