Looking back at Patricia Wolf & Sara Mokrani at Amstelkerk
Review // SoundOn June 11th, Subbacultcha had the pleasure of hosting Patricia Wolf and Sara Mokrani at the historic Amsterlkerk, found at
Joanne Robertson is a musician and painter. She collaborates regularly with friends, most recently with Dean Blunt on Backstage Raver and Sidsel Meineche Hansen on Alien Baby.
In 2018 she moved to Glasgow after having lived in London. Both her painting and music emerge from improvisatory moments of expression, and her critically acclaimed album Blurrr, released via AD 93 in 2025, was written between painting sessions and while raising a child. Loose and playful in its intuition, Robertson’s vocals and guitar drift, murmur, and whisper across the record, fostering a deep intimacy as unknown emotions rise up from the well.
Her previous album Blue Car is a collection drawn from an archive of unreleased solo recordings. Like Painting Stupid Girls, the songs attempt to capture a specific moment, and where she was emotionally on a given day, much like diary entries. The exact dates she wrote the songs are unknown, but they span roughly a ten-year period.
Additionally, S*an D. Henry-Smith will open the evening with their sonic poetry.
This is a Subbacultcha collaboration with BIMHUIS and The Rest is Noise. Please make a reservation by sending an email to mailinglist@subbacultcha.nl with ‘Joanne Robertson’ in the subject line + your name in the email.
Registrations are open until 12.00 PM on weekdays.
