Noise meets hip-hop in the first track off their upcoming EP
It feels like we’ve taken a winding path with Mykki Blanco, the punk-bred rapper known for his upfront, gender challenging, activist approach. In an industry that often demands conformity, Blanco has made his sound heard by being unafraid to be himself and pushing the boundaries. In an announcement last year Blanco planted fear, stating he was shifting from music to investigative journalism, but finding an overlap has meant a sooner than expected return. Fuelled with performative art and fiery poetry his latest work follows that energetic pace he always had – but with a sombre, contemporary Romeo and Juliet laced over the surface.
