Mdou Moctar’s guitar playing is currently number one on our list of zen-inducing things. This Tuareg from Niger mixes early Ducktails-style droney guitar jams with auto-tuned vocals and synths, while at the same time channeling the spirit of Robert Johnson. Apart from scoring a perfect 10 on the authenticity scale, this is exactly the kind of music you want as accompaniment on a hot and humid evening. Mdou himself sings a lot about Islam, so he might not approve of drinking excessive amounts of alcohol whilst also enjoying some dank weed to go with his music, but whatever, that’s what you’ll want to do anyway.
