Rewire Festival have just added a little more brawn to their absurdly strong spring lineup. Kicking off Saturday, 2 May with a fully-fledged day programme at Korzo, they’re calling on a seven-pronged post-punk/dance attack from the heart of the Democratic Republic of Congo to shake you from the previous night’s slumber. Kinshasa-based outfit Mbongwana Star challenge standard preconceptions around ‘African music’ by fusing traditional Congolese rhythms with contemporary dance and post-punk elements. In other words, bring a change of clothes.
