Lonnie Holley

Sixty-three-year-old acclaimed sculptor and painter Lonnie Holley has added another craft to his bag of tricks with a collection of holistic sound poems that archival folk label Dust-to-Digital sought to issue along with the equally great Keeping a Record of It and Just Before Music. Holley shares the bill with the equally fascinating Nigerien experimental organ player Mammane Sani, whose 1978 instrumental recording, La Musique Electronique du Niger, is now available in all its psychedelic, hypnotic glory thanks to the goldmine of a blog-turned-record label Sahel Sounds. Highly recommended.
