Grachtenfestival

17 August

Amsterdam’s Grachtenfestival (17-25 August, various locations) is broadening its horizon and taking their concerts off the canals and on to het IJ. The Hembrugterrein is an amazing area around an abandonded munitions factory on the shores of het IJ. The 42 hectares of land hide a stunning mix of mysterious nature and old industrial buildings.

Amsterdam’s Grachtenfestival is broadening its horizon this year and taking its concerts off the canals and on to het IJ. The eight day festival will host countless classical performances in various locations around the city, but 17 August will feature a very special double bill at an extraordinary location and it’ll be free for Subbacultcha! members.

The Hembrugterrein is an amazing area around an abandoned munitions factory on the shores of het IJ. The 42 hectares of land hide a stunning mix of mysterious nature and old industrial buildings. The area is normally closed to the public but on this Saturday afternoon the gates will open. And not only will you be able to experience the unique grounds, but you’ll also be witness to two concerts, the first by the Ricotti Ensemble and the second by the Dutch Trombone Ensemble, that take place at two different locations on the terrain. In between the concerts you will be guided from one location to the other by a savvy architect who will tell you everything about the amazing Hembrugterrein. Don’t miss the experience!

Please note: there will be two ferries that take you directly to the Hembrugterrein on the day of the Grachtenfestival. Check the Grachtenfestival website for departure/return times and other info related to this event.
