An Evening of Today is a showcase for young musical talent in the world of new music. The music creators of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam explore the boundaries of musical imagination in a full evening’s programme. Genevieve Murphy, Kate Moore and Rick van Veldhuizen are among the artists who have made their debut in previous editions in recent years. This year, Muziekgebouw presents the stage to four new, promising creators.
The duo LASALTAS creates, in their experimental music project low lit // between surfaces, an immersive environment for spatial sound projection and subtle light and video elements, turning the performance space itself into part of the composition. Azraëlle by Louise Baux, named after a biblical archangel and the cat from The Smurfs, explores the tension between the personal and the mythical. Christian Johannes investigates folk music on the Fokker organ, integrating two seemingly opposing traditions through digital transformation. Nadia, Sara plusplus, SPITS, and Ruggero Di Luisi present a fractured ensemble spread throughout the Grote Zaal, showcasing four custom systems for live electronic and spatial improvisation, exploring possibilities for connection through disorientation.
