Shubeen

6 June - Skatecafé, Amsterdam
€10-15

Shubeen runs headfirst to Skatecafé on June 6th for another annual gathering where the diaspora is put first. A full-blown 3-room takeover dedicated to migrant sounds, global bass pressure and the beautiful weirdos who make Amsterdam nightlife worth leaving the house for.

At the helm: co-founders Murkage Dave and Passion DEEZ going back-to-back, back-to-black, back-to-the-old-school after last year’s sold-out madness. No stone left unturned as they ascend together through the full spectrum of their influences. What’s the sound? Think Celtic tiger Indie tunes. Think UK garage beyond the 30 songs every guy with a Carhartt beanie still rinses. Think about that one pint spiller who always talks to you about 90s and 00s UK club music while you’re just trying to order an Uber home. Think about that Hip-Hop mixtape your neighbour’s older sister always used to play that completely changed your life for six months before you realised that it’s never gonna happen, so you started dating that art student with the septum piercing.

Flying in from Los Angeles, Bianca Oblivion joins us fresh off shutting down dances worldwide with razor-sharp selections, unreleased dubplates and an undeniable commitment to making the girls shake ass. The NTS resident doesn’t come to play nice. She comes to rearrange the function. Opening the dance, we have Amsterdam nightlife institution Victor Crezée bringing the spirit of Whatever Forever back into the room. A sound that shaped our tastes through legendary club nights and radio shows across Red Light Radio, NTS and Echobox. Post-punk. New wave. Hip hop. Trap. Drill. Rock. Punk. This ain’t Lil’ Vic. This ain’t Victor Crezée. This is Whatever Forever. An immaculate wine pairing for the chaos the Shubeen lads will unleash later that night.

Meanwhile, in the rave bunker a.k.a. Club 1900, Passion DEEZ & friends resident DJ dengdeng builds a room held together on dembow pressure, sweat, rhythm and the kind of energy that feels like a house party on steroids. Music for the girls, the gays and everybody in-between. She joins the multi-disciplinary local legend Cata.Pirata from South Africa, with roots & routes via Argentina, The Azores, Ibiza, beyond, who will hold hands and become a force to be reckoned with. After touring the world with her band SKIP&DIE, she is pushing things forward solo!

June 6th. Skatecafé. Three rooms. One annual gathering. Tickets are live now, and you already know how this goes. Don’t wait until the group chat starts begging for Ticketswap links.
