For their Dutch debut, Berlin-based collective ASNAM أصنام is organizing a two-part event across Amsterdam and The Hague on the weekend of 15–16 May. Following a night at Bar40 on Friday, they will touch down in The Hague on Saturday to take over The Grey Space in the Middle for an evening of exciting and innovative sounds. The thoughtfully curated programme features live sets including BURIDAN’S SNARES, a sonic and dance performance by French artist Ha Kyoon, Brussels-based Carrageenan performing a live set from his latest release Dry Signal (Nose Job Records), and SERENA, who will present a delicate journey into harsh noise. Experimental and narrative DJ and hybrid sets will be delivered by locals Isadora Chadeaux and Swamp trax.

SWAMP TRAX 

Swamp trax invites you to slowly sink or dance. Working as an multidisciplinary artist in Amsterdam, in their sets they move organically between drone, experimental, and noise with a focus on music as a spatial and ritual practice. Through layering sounds that shift between the ethereal and the comforting, to the experimental and the transgressive, Swamp trax draws immersive narratives that slowly pull you under into the wetlands.

SERENA

Amsterdam-based selector, music producer and curator SERENA forges immersive soundscapes that merge aggressive noise with atmospheric textures, dubby loops, distorted guitars, and guttural vocals. She is the founder of SUBURBIA, an event launched in 2022 that fuses experimental music and visual arts and media, showcasing a wide range of both local and international emergent artists. Her collaboration with Mutant Radio on the new radio show ‘Nervous Energy Diaries’ further amplifies her influence. Through her work, she weaves a tapestry of sound and vision that is both a tribute to the past and a defiant leap into the future.

ISADORA CHADEAUX 

Isadora Chadeaux moves through weathered electronic noises, slapping together a patchwork of acoustic and novel samples to pose a scene. Their selection is a black box of chance encounters, putting tempo and tone in swinging tension. In built up dense layers, Isadora works to expose delicate sounds slipping through in diffuse, shifting ranges.

HA KYOON is a protean artist born in South Korea, raised in France and based in Paris. With a circus, dance & acting background, he collaborates as a performer with different artists in the performing arts fields since 2009. In music Ha KYOON is on tour with a punk electronique live act, with machines, a triggered snare, synths and a voice.

BURDIAN’s SNARES 

The starting point for this performance is the Buridan’s donkey paradox: a parable in

which a donkey starves to death between two handfuls of oats placed at equal

distances from him (or between a bucket of oats and a bucket of water), unable to

choose between the two.

The body is the starting point or junction between two actions, making our soul the

consequence of our choices.

CARRAGEENAN 

Carrageenan is Brussels based midnight lurker Matthieu Levet’s solo project. He’s a hardened live performer, boss of the Cold Moss label and in diverse bands like Carcass Identity, Pizza Noise Mafia and Orphids. His live performance often turns a venue into a black hole where analog percussion, heavy distorted bass, dub techniques and raw minimalism meet, bubbling, scraping, drowning the audience in a splurge of electronic tonal and atonal dribble. Raw and unapologetic, Carrageenan’s hardware jams serve as a meditation on the absurd nature of the world we live in. Minimal, repetitive and hypnotic arrangements become a ritualistic experience, motioning ever deeper, creating a disorienting and surreal experience, always looking for that unusual or unorthodox twist. Let’s Go There on Cold Moss was his debut, then came Invisible Design on Czaszka Records and Distorted Realities on Jollies. And now he unleashes Dry Signal, a profound and disquieting album, on Nose Job.
