Flipchart: In Touch With

13 September - iii, the Hague
19:30 - 22:30 - 10€ - sliding scale

Flipchart series at iii stage works at the most exciting moment, before works are finished and presented at larger venues.

This Flipchart brings you extremes of a feather on the tip on your nose functioning as an insect’s antenna (Jasper van den Berg & Barry de Bruin), an instrument prototype that positions the body within electromagnetic sensibility (Sjoerd Leijten & Daphne Karstens), and a choreography for accordion and body that explores how sound and gesture become one (Nursinem Aslan). Come and witness how through engaging bio-art and sensory playfulness, touch can dissolve borders between self and other, where feedback loops come to exist between bodies and materials.

The Nosefeather
A simple but unique exercise about senses, movement and connection. In The Nosefeather we invite you to join a small exploration in focusing our attention. Everyone receives a feather that can be attached to the tip of the nose. For twenty minutes the feather will become like an insect’s antenna. You can embark on a solo exploration as well as connecting with others. Are we able to tap into super senses?

Jasper van den Berg
Combining his background in urban and cultural sociology, training as an actor, and years of experience in creating art projects, Jasper investigates and brings contemporary stories to life. Deep curiosity, intuitive exploration, and the need for connection with others form the mix of his creative journeys. This leads to a kaleidoscope of forms that challenge norms and bring about profound introspection.

Barry de Bruin
Barry is a music performance artist. After his study at the Utrecht Conservatory he sang and played in several theatre productions. He also gave workshops about the relation between gender, personal boundaries and violence for Emancipator. Three important fields of inquiry are; somatic dance practice, psychodrama and the singing of Indian scales. Connecting practice and daily life to the question: What is movement? Physically, psychologically and emotionally.

Aether Arcer
What is the position of the body within electromagnetic sensibility? The project explores forms of embodied transceiving and instant composition inside electromagnetic landscapes and ecologies, simultaneously celebrating the joyful potentiality of the buzzing noises that swirl around us and raising awareness on the more problematic sides of electromagnetism. Aether Arcer is a wearable sculptural instrument with a physical and expressive approach towards these invisible and inaudible signals around us.

Sjoerd Leijten
Sjoerd is a transdisciplinary artist, composer and radio maker with a keen interest in radical ecology and the politics of listening. His work consists of performances, concerts, film, sound walks, installations, releases and radio work. His practice involves electromagnetism, field recordings, experimental journalism and hacking. His work has been shown among others at Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam, NL), Budapest Spring Festival (Budapest, HU), V2_ (Rotterdam, NL), FiraTarrega (Tarrega, ES) and Oerol (Terschelling, NL).

Daphne Karstens
Daphne combines sculpture and costume to create experimental wearable sculptures, costumes, performances and installations. Her work focuses on experimentation with materials, shape and structure on and around the body, often incorporating wearable tech. She creates autonomous works and also works in collaboration with different theatre groups, composers, bands and drag queens in the Netherlands and abroad

A Very Personal Relationship Between Sound and Movement
A performance that explores how sound and physical gesture become one. In this piece, the act of playing the accordion transforms into a kind of choreography, each sound shaped by movement, each movement shaped by sound. Carried by the winds of The Hague and the spirit of Istanbul, the performance looks at how increased body awareness can open up new layers of musical expression.

Nursinem Aslan
Nursinem is a multidisciplinary artist exploring the relationship between the human body, materiality, and sound, crafting tactile experiences that invite presence and reflection. By combining analog and digital tools, she challenges conventional boundaries of artistic mediums. Her work has been shown internationally at venues and festivals including Ars Electronica, Fiber Festival, and OOAM Festival. Born and raised in Turkey and currently based in the Netherlands, Nursinem’s artistic approach is shaped by navigating different cultural and social landscapes.
