Meet the artists of our Performance Dinner Fundraiser this Friday:

Textile artist and designer Limo Hair will take care of decorating the space with patch worked tablecloths and dried flowers.
Anni Nöps will start the evening with a live visceral ambient set, crafting aural landscapes threading through delicate compositions, dense subs and ghostly drones.
Zamity Mitelembe will perform a sound piece during dinner, delving into an intimate and personal universe where folk tinged music converges into a sound that feels both vulnerable and restless.
Knee Deep In Custard, consisting of twins Abi and Claire Meekel are presenting an A/V live piece with a poetic surprise after dinner, incorporating field recordings, collage techniques inspired by 90s grunge and no-wave.
And baby gaboush will weave the night together, scoring the evening in full baby ganoush style.

More about why we need your help:

Since 2004, Subbacultcha has been a key player in Amsterdam’s alternative and independent music scene. For more than twenty years, we have offered a platform to emerging, independent, and talented artists in the early stages of their careers, in various venues across Amsterdam, from OCCII to Muziekgebouw, from Melkweg to OT301, and from Garage Noord to Concertgebouw. Beyond music and concerts, we have also led numerous independent projects and publications with upcoming artists, writers, musicians and designers in recent years. From the collectibles series and Sprout zine in the COVID-19 pandemic, to our varying magazines and newspapers we structurally distributed over the city for a decade, to art exhibitions in our old venue s105 to collaborations with local art collectives and fashion brands. All with the goal of providing underrepresented artists with a platform to share their work with our engaging members and followers.

Our biggest strength is that we always take on new forms, adapting ourselves to an ever-changing world. For so long, this is precisely what has kept us alive, and now we’re at another turning point. To continue this mission and take full ownership of our future, we need your help. We are working towards becoming a fully independent platform—run by the same passionate team (consisting of three part-time freelancers), with the same values, but with a new structure that ensures we are directly responsible for Subbacultcha. This endeavor to become independent comes with its own risks as we don’t have any reserves to fall back on––which is essential for an experimental music platform organizing multiple concerts every month. Because without any means to fall back on, we can not experiment. That is why we are turning to our community to help us out. Every cent you contribute will go directly towards covering our core costs and maintaining our platform, which will give us an essential push to keep moving forward in this ever-precarious cultural landscape. This will allow us to keep on taking risks and facilitate events with exciting artists we believe in, and with organizations and labels that share our values: for culture, not for profit. All to keep our beloved Amsterdam scene interesting!

If we ever helped you discover a new favorite artist or friend, we hope that you will consider supporting us now.
