Raised in the tropical climate of Long Beach, the cool cat trio Tijuana Panthers stand behind the sonic perception of a wilder west as opposed to its east coast counterpart. The mixed sounds of garage pop & punk derive influence from their petulant predecessors from the same West Coast zone, so drummer Phil Shaheen put together a list of tracks from the last couple of decades that nurtured these kittens into the full grown Panthers they are now. Here’s a few words from the man himself:
“I grew up driving down the coast with my friends at a very young age and a lot of these bands comprised the sound track. South bay is the furthest north these bands reach so you could say it’s mainly a sample of Long Beach,CA and downwards towards Mexico. A lot of bands are trying to bring back the mellow these days, this is a reminder of the not so distant past that brought the heat.
Later days,
Phil Shaheen”
