Know V.A. – Eyes Closed

Summer may finally be in full swing, but Amsterdam-duo Know V.A. are having none of it. Content to lurk in the shadows just a little longer, they’ve followed up their excellent four-track Winterpack with a dissonant, chopped & screwed rework of Ciara’s “Surgeon”. From the outset, “Eyes Closed” sets an ominous tone. A demonic distortion crawls out from the depths, only to be met by a crushing, metallic bassline that rips any semblance of Ciara to pieces. It’s not until Phil Collins shines a little light on the track two minutes in that we’re lifted from this dark. But even that is just a brief respite, as the track lurches back into the murky depths. Suffice it to say, we can’t wait for this pitch-black banger to knock us off our feet when the duo take on Melkweg next Friday, 12 June as HOAX residents to host Tectonic founder Pinch, labelmates Mumdance and Logos, and local A/V techno stalwarts 2562 & Heleen Blanken.
