Diane Coffee – My Friend Fish

Diane Coffee – My Friend Fish (Western Vinyl)

Being a child star seems to be a recipe for either failure of catastrophic proportions or fascinating character building. The tale of Shaun Fleming, AKA Diane Coffee, follows the latter script. After spending his early years acting and doing voice work for various Disney films and TV shows, he joined Foxygen as their drummer for a spell before picking up and leaving his Southern California hometown for New York. Welcomed to the city by a drained immune system and wallet, he holed up for two weeks to write and record My Friend Fish with whatever ramshackle equipment he had on hand. Despite the quick turnaround and his extremely limited means, it is a remarkably accomplished debut, filled with rousing and soulful ’60s-inspired gospel pop ’n’ roll that leaves you eager for a sequel.
