Diana – Perpetual Surrender (Jagjaguwar)
Instead of Mozart, in the ’80s all the pregnant women in Toronto must have been playing New Order and Depeche Mode for their unborn children, because over the past few years the area has birthed a ridiculous number of great synth-driven bands like Austra, Crystal Castles, and now Diana, but unlike their gloomier brethren, Diana’s sound is more a fusion of Toro y Moi’s shy synth funk, Chromatics’ sultry female vocals, and soft rock à la Destroyer’s Kaputt.
