Phédre:
Toronto’s Phèdre are a sort of-band / art collective centered around core members April Aliermo and Daniel Lee, who also play in the solid surf rock band Hooded Fang. Their 2012 self-titled debut was recorded in an attic in less than a week with the help of Airick Woodhead of Doldrums and more than a little wine, and sounded like an appropriately loose and giddy amalgamation of several decades and genres of pop music, touching most often upon disco and post-punk a la David Bowie and Iggy Pop. Its follow-up, Golden Age, drops October 1st, and on the eve of its release they’ll bring their orgiastic live show to all revelers wise enough to show up at De Nieuwe Anita. Aaron Coyes, the hubby half of dup pop duo Peaking Lights and crate digger extraordinaire, will spin vinyl from his beloved personal collection as Peaking Lights Sound System to help everyone get into the groove.
