Music — this thing that is as much part of our life as it shapes it. Whether we’re going through the perks of early mornings or in search of the perfect catalyst to get a party started, we all have a mental playlist for specific memories and moments. Since here at Subbacultcha music is essential to our existence, we decided that from now on, every month, we’ll ask an artist to take some time to reflect on moments in life and the music that completed them. This month we’re asking Fenna Fiction. Don’t miss her next Wednesday, 22 November at Melkweg, Amsterdam where she takes the stage with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith.

Full name: Fenna Fiction
What do you do: Fulltime student at Sandberg Instituut, parttime collector of songs and images.

A song for waking up..

Dana’s voice is so stunning and powerfull! And the messiness of this particular recording relates to my usual morning routine on a school day.
A song that boosts your creativity..

This song sounds a little creaky to your ears but as many people I find inspiration in the things that are crooked, questionable and flawed.

A song that helps you focus when you’re working..

After my creativity is sparked I need music which is rhythmic, dark, but not too distracting, to get me concentrated on my work. This song by Borusiade captures my work mood pretty well.

A song for working out..

When I work out it probably looks more like I’m meditating, therefore I chose this meditative song by Iona Fortune.

A song for nostalgic moments..

This song reminds me of holiday in general, and dancing next to the water on a warm summer night in particular. Good memories.

Catch Fenna Fiction at Melkweg, Amsterdam next Wednesday, 22 November together with Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith.
