Fredrik Rasten is guitarist and composer who is primarily focused on rational harmony and its related acoustic phenomena. Within his research, Rasten is distinct, inventive, compelling, and sometimes playful.
On October 9th, Rasten will perform an acoustic iteration of Murmuration and Stasis (2025), released on Moving Furniture Records. In this body of work, he explores how sustained, fine-tuned harmonies can give rise to a physical and tactile perception of sound. Rasten encircles himself with five acoustic guitars, and will sustain its string into oblivion. Analogically, one-half of the work’s name denotes the phenomenon of multitudes of birds in collective movement, as they create amorphous, ever changing shapes in the sky. The seemingly infinitely ringing strings summon crisp tone spectres, which in their turn create vast figures that slowly drift, overturn and topple.
