SubWaves lands at the ultra cozy Café De Knoop with two explosive brass bands that bring raw energy, groove, and adventurous sounds to the stage.
The Zebra Street Band
The Zebra Street Band creates a highly energetic music that is both artistic and infectiously danceable. Myriad styles melt together into a repertoire that echoes Africa and the Caribbeans as well as jazz and breakbeat. Moments of groove alternating with floating textures and collective improvisations. Every member of the band is a strong soloist and improviser and this allows the music to come out fresh and new with each performance. No piece is played the same way twice. The band has released two acclaimed albums (ZeBrass, 2018 and Shirwku, 2022). A celebratory street band on the surface, but far too experimental to be pinned down their collective improvisations and irresistible grooves are guaranteed to get every crowd moving.
Paolo Petrecca- trumpet
Salvoandrea Lucifora – trombone, tuba
Michael Ott- tenor, bass saxophone
John Dikeman – tenor, bass saxophone
Onno Govaert – drums, percussions
MUNGO BUNGO
High-energy dance music at its best, this trio is explosive! With roots from South Africa, Greece, and Lithuania, MUNGO BUNGO creates an electric atmosphere with elements of Balkan, Afro, improvised, world, and contemporary music. Fiery trumpet melodies, hypnotic drums, and powerful tuba bass lines come together for a sonic journey that will have you bouncing in no time.
James McClure – trumpet, percussion
Gediminas Stepanavicius – sousaphone
Nikos Thessalonikefs – drums, percussion
Primidisco
Primidisco is a crew of vinyl lovers spinning sweet, weird, and wildly danceable tunes. Their sets are built from personal record collections—disco grooves, italodisco oddities, funky beats, and ’70s–’80s gems—all blended with care and a sense of fun. The energy is contagious: bodies start moving, smiles appear, and dancing becomes the only reasonable response. It’s music that brings people together, one joyful beat at a time.
