Subwaves: Connecting Frequencies is back at the cozy chamber of De Richel, kicking off its season on Saturday September 6th. The eleventh edition of Subwaves features the music of three distinct, uncompromising and genre-defying ensembles between free jazz, improv and percussive abstract textures.
The Names
Chamber-jazz group The Names, helmed by composer/bassist Koen Nutters, combines finely-wrought counterpoint with drifting, abstract percussive textures. The group features Germaine Sijstermans on clarinet, Gert-Jan Prins on percussion, Seamus Cater on harmonica, and Marielle Groven on violin.
Hayashi Costa Lopes Lucifora 4tet
Raiga Hayashi, the Japanese Berlin-based percussionist from Kinjo No Tabibito (a trio with Akira Sakata and Toshimaru Nakamura), will perform a set of improvised music with saxophonist Hugo Costa, pianist Inês Lopes and trombonist Salvoandrea Lucifora.
Ng Mulder Lumley Renfrow 4tet
Karen Ng, the Toronto-based alto saxophonist known for her work with Do Make Say Think and the Weather Station, has assembled a new Amsterdam-based group with pianist Nora Mulder, drummer Tristan Renfrow and bassist Aaron Lumley.
