In addition to being a virtuoso violinist in a traditional sense, Finnish fiddler Pekka Kuusisto has earned acclaim for his versatility and rare enthusiasm for improvisation, informed by his experiences outside the realm of classical music – namely, playing jazz with a trio called Töykeät and other progressive musicians like Finland’s RinneRadio, dabbling in electronic music ranging from hip hop to noise, heading his own Finnish folk ensemble, the Luomu Players, and appearing on various Finnish rock and pop releases.
