Minimal Music Festival: Bendik Giske & Sam Barker + Mohammad Reza Mortazavi

18 April - Muziekgebouw, Amsterdam
20.30-22.45 - 12,50-31,00

A versatile double bill tonight. Bendik Giske and Sam Barker present their joint project, in which stillness and contemplation predominate. Mohammad Reza Mortazavi, a virtuoso on the tombak and daf, presents his latest work Nexus: a compelling quest for rhythm, resonance, and transformation. Two worlds, one evening full of groundbreaking music.

Barker and Giske both have roots in the Berlin techno scene. Since then, they have gradually developed their own musical language, which now consists of a repertoire of epic compositions and contemplative electro-acoustic suites for saxophone and electronics. Corporeality and queer theory play a major role in Giske’s work. Barker has experimented extensively with atmospheric techno without beats.

Mohammad Reza Mortazavi’s trance-inducing playing transcends traditional playing techniques on the Daf and Tombak. He describes finding a balance between concentration and letting go as the core of his work, in which the boundaries between body and mind flow into one another during his playing.
