On the border of magic and realism and amidst sun-drenched Italian tobacco fields, we meet country boy Lazzaro. Lazzaro was born and raised in the forgotten Italian village of Inviolata. Here comes the spoiled young Edelman Tancredi to visit, who asks Lazzaro to help him stage his kidnapping. Lazzaro, who is always willing to help people anyway (and sometimes maybe lets it run over a bit), joins Tancredi. The friendship between the two leads to a shift in space and time with far-reaching consequences for the village and its inhabitants.
With Lazzaro Felice, director Alice Rohrwacher has put together a magical-realistic fairy tale that strikingly exposes the relationship between rich and poor in Italy. The film won the awards several times and won the Best Screenplay award at Cannes and the Youth Jury Award at IFFR, among others.
