Eleanor Friedberger

6 September

With her main act and indie-rock institution Fiery Furnaces on hiatus, singer and songwriter Eleanor Friedberger is now at it alone, channeling nimble and affective lyricism into infectious surfpop hooks reminiscent of 70s idolatry.

Attend event:

Eleanor Friedberger got her start playing the Patti to her brother Matthew’s Beefheart in the wacky pop Double Whopper that was The Fiery Furnaces. Shortly after the band went on hiatus back in 2011, Eleanor released her first solo album, Last Summer, followed this year by the subtly triumphant Personal Record. While The Furnaces were known for their wild experimentalism and elaborate lyricism, Eleanor’s solo work has proved to be more casually clever and far more compelling. The buoyant, ‘70s/’80s-channeling melodies and poignant, sharply observed storytelling of her latest work will linger in your mind long after Personal Record crosses the finish line.
