BIMHUIS & Space is the Place present: An Interplanetary Night: Fearless Music

Our friends over at Bimhuis are offering Subba members access to their event: An Interplanetary Night: Fearless Music. This evening presents, in collaboration with Space Is The Place, “a range of sonic daredevils from, among others, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Brussels. An explosion of unclassifiable bands and musicians under the supervision of Space is the Place, that regularly infiltrates the Bimhuis.”⁠

FARIDA AMADOU

From noise punk to improv jazz: Farida Amadou has mastered it all. The bass guitarist from Liège has conquered punk venues and festivals with the band Cocaine Piss, which recorded an album in Steve Albini’s studio. As an improvisor she has collaborated with, among others Linda Sharrock, Ken Vandermark, Thurston Moore, and Peter Brötzmann.

YUNG-TUAN KU

Yung-Tuan is a percussionist and a physical performer. She likes to delve into contemporary music, music theatre, instant composition and creative music making, to discover different soundscapes and possibilities in the realm of percussion.

TOBIAS DELIUS

English-born tenor saxophonist Tobias Delius was a prominent member of Amsterdam’s improvised music community for years. He was a member of the ICP Orchestra, and collaborated with artists such as Steve Lacy and Bill Frisell. He’s currently based in Berlin where he’s part of the improv scene, performing regularly with Axel Dörner and Christian Lillinger, among many others.

GUY SALAMON

With a British opera singer for a mother and a Peruvian salsa musician for a father, Israel-born-Amsterdam-based-drummer Guy Salamon is constantly developing his own musical approach. As a band leader he has left quite an impression with the album Unfollow the Leader, which has won the first prize in the competition Keep an Eye – The Records. Guy Salamon has played in other bands with, among others, Jesse van Ruller, Reinier Baas, and Tineke Postma.

DRAMM – LA BERGE -DRAMM

‘The 21st century von Trapp family’ is an appropriate nickname for their ensemble: composer and guitarist David Dramm, composer and flautist Anne La Berge, and composer and violinist (and their daughter) Diamanda La Berge Dramm. On the album Modern Genetics they combine original compositions with works by, among others, Charles Ives, and covers by The Velvet Underground and Burt Bacharach. An impossible, rousing mix of punk, country, spoken word and electro.

EXCLAVE!

From Sub-Saharan Africa to Cuba and South-America, and from musical genres such as salsa, rumba, son, reggae and dancehall: it’s all based on the clave, the rhythmic pattern that ties a whole world of music together. Uruguayan musician Miguel Petruccelli invites a band that shares a love for the clave, to make your heart beat to its rhythm. A festive and danceable rhythm!

FAST DE

Melodic pop compositions flowing into danceable West African rhythms, ambient interludes and complex harmonies: Fast De takes you with an overdose of energy on a lively trip that you cannot escape from.

NASIM LOPEZ PALACIOS NAVARRO / MARTA WARELIS

Pianist Marta Warelis is a vibrant performer with a strong preference for improvisation and experimentation in all genres. She draws inspiration from cumbia and Angolan dance music, as well as jazz and classical music. Nasim Lopéz-Palacios Navarro is an explosive drummer from Spain.

Mamakil is a writer, artist, DJ, community builder, and part of SEHAQ, Queer Refugees Group, a collective led by and for queer refugees.
