Anger & Beyond: Chomont + Smith

20 April

More Info

OFFoff uses Kenneth Anger’s Fireworks, the first gay film publicly screened in America, as point of departure for this next chapter in the Anger and Beyond series. Oblivion and Razor Head, early films by Tom Chomont, show that Chomont’s style is closely affiliated with Anger’s lyrical and rhythmic style, ranging from dreamy filmic portraits of his friends to a rougher fascination for SM. The colourful Respectable Creatures and Jungle Island prove Jack Smith is this other great authority in the history of American experimental and queer cinema.
