An Interplanetary Night: Natural Information Society, Dovetail and more

1 November - Bimhuis, Amsterdam
€25

Spectacular evening filled with ensembles and artists pushing boundaries and crossing borders of contemporary jazz.

Under the guise of An Interplanetary Night, Space Is the Place organizes spectacular evenings with multiple artists who are pushing boundaries and crossing borders. With its roots in jazz and improvised music, the program explores a variety of genres. This edition present an extraordinary international line-up.

Natural Information Society
Natural Information Society sounds intangible, simultaneously relaxing and energetic. The band from Chicago combines traditional and electric instruments, drawing from minimalism, jazz, krautrock and more. Band leader Joshua Abrams incorporates the hypnotic tones of the gimbri, the three-stringed instrument from West-African gnawa music.

Dovetail
To create a cohesive fastening that is stronger than the sum of its parts—that is the goal of Dovetail, a three-piece formation named after a carpentry technique. Dovetail’s music feels familiar, yet shifts beneath your feet; patterns that make sense only through surrendering to them. Grooves inspired by West African folk traditions, minimal classical music, and avant-garde techno are connected much like a fluent DJ set.

Lida Brouskari
Lida Brouskari is a Greek artist working with piano, synths, toys, voice, and text. She is an active part of the Amsterdam improvisation scene, leading her own band Nufaro. In this solo performance, Lida explores the connections between the mental and the physical, the acoustic and the electronic, presence and absence.

Ada Rave/Sofia Borges
As a sound creator, Sofia Borges expands the drum kit by adding objects, some of them of her own invention, music boxes, toys, orchestral percussion instruments and field recordings, creating her own sonic world. Now she will improvise with saxophonist Ada Rave, whose bold tenor sound is based on research into a wide variety of techniques, conventional and unorthodox, which allow her to create a highly personal narrative in real time composition. For their first-ever duo concert, Borges and Rave bring to life the spirit of their debut album The Unseen Pact—an electrifying dialogue built on spontaneity, intuition, and the thrill of uncharted sound.

Paroah B2B Spooky-J
Two sonic explorers join forces behind the decks for a genre-defying B2B DJ-set. Spooky-J (of Nihiloxica) brings UK bass and footwork while Paroah weaves in trap, heavy percussions, and hybrid club textures.
